Job Description

We are seeking a Data Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Semantic Modeling, SQL, dimensional data modeling, and cloud data platforms.

The role will focus on designing, building, and governing an enterprise semantic layer using Microsoft Fabric to support trusted, self-service reporting and analytics. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience assessing data quality, table readiness, data grain, keys, relationships, and source-system structures for semantic modeling.

The candidate will work closely with data domain teams and provide recommendations for modeling data from platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks. The role also involves developing and optimizing data pipelines, performing data exploration, and mentoring team members on semantic modeling and data engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft Fabric & Semantic Modeling

  • Design, build, and maintain semantic models using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
  • Work with OneLake and Power BI datasets to support enterprise reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Develop scalable and trusted enterprise semantic layers.
  • Define and implement semantic models, relationships, measures, and business logic.
  • Optimize semantic models for performance, usability, scalability, and business adoption.
  • Ensure semantic models are supported by reliable, high-quality underlying data.

Data Readiness & Data Modeling

  • Partner with data domain teams to evaluate table readiness for semantic modeling.
  • Assess data quality, data grain, primary/foreign keys, relationships, and data structures.
  • Identify data gaps and communicate recommendations to source/data teams.
  • Apply star schema, dimensional modeling, snowflake schema, and data vault concepts.
  • Define conformed dimensions and reusable data structures for enterprise analytics.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into effective data and semantic models.

Data Engineering & Pipelines

  • Develop and optimize data pipelines and transformations supporting the semantic layer.
  • Work with data from Snowflake and Databricks.
  • Perform data ingestion, transformation, integration, and preparation for downstream analytics.
  • Develop complex data engineering solutions using SQL, Python, DAX, Java, Scala, and/or Go.
  • Troubleshoot data pipeline and transformation issues.
  • Optimize data processing for performance, scalability, and reliability.

Data Exploration & Analytics

  • Perform data wrangling, exploration, profiling, and discovery across heterogeneous data sources.
  • Analyze data structures to identify quality, relationship, and modeling issues.
  • Translate data findings into actionable semantic modeling recommendations.
  • Support business teams with trusted and easily consumable analytical data.

Cloud & Data Platforms

  • Work with cloud data platforms including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Integrate and optimize data across Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Apply cloud data engineering and architecture best practices.
  • Support scalable enterprise data and analytics environments.

Data Governance & Observability

  • Apply data governance, cataloging, lineage, and data quality practices.
  • Support data discovery and traceability across enterprise data environments.
  • Work with data monitoring and observability tools such as Prometh

Mentoring & Technical Leadership

  • Mentor team members on semantic modeling and data engineering best practices.
  • Conduct knowledge sharing and technical guidance.
  • Support the development of team capabilities in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, data modeling, and data engineering.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, data domain teams, and business stakeholders.

Project Planning & Delivery

  • Assist management with project definition, estimation, planning, and scope development.
  • Contribute to semantic layer initiatives from prototype through production.
  • Help identify technical dependencies, risks, and implementation requirements.
  • Own solutions and deliverables through the complete development lifecycle.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 5 years of related experience; OR
  • Advanced Degree with 3 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered where applicable.
