Distribution Designer

We’re partnered with an industry leading Engineering firm to identify a Power Distribution Designer.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare electric utility distribution design and construction packages for overhead and underground power distribution projects.


• Design and modify overhead distribution lines, underground distribution systems, primary and secondary electrical systems, feeders, poles, conductors, transformers, and other distribution equipment.


• Support projects involving new feeder design, feeder replacement, reconductoring, cable replacement, pole replacement, distribution equipment installation, and system upgrades.


• Perform field surveys and site visits to collect and verify information regarding existing poles, power lines, equipment, utilities, clearances, and field conditions.


• Apply electric utility standards, specifications, design criteria, and construction standards to distribution designs.


• Perform or assist with pole loading, clearance, conductor, equipment, and other distribution design calculations.


• Prepare design drawings, construction sketches, material requirements, cost estimates, work orders, and construction packages.


• Utilize design and engineering software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, O-Calc, AutoCAD, GIS, or similar utility distribution design platforms.


• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, field personnel, utility representatives, and other project stakeholders.


• Support QA/QC reviews to ensure designs comply with client standards, utility requirements, and project specifications.


• Assist with project proposals, engineering and construction cost estimates, scopes of work, and execution schedules.


• Manage multiple distribution design assignments while meeting project schedules and client expectations.


• Communicate with clients, utilities, contractors, and outside personnel regarding design requirements and project execution.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of electric utility distribution design, power distribution design, or power line design experience preferred.


• Experience designing overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems.


• Knowledge of distribution poles, conductors, transformers, feeders, primary and secondary systems, and utility construction standards.


• Experience developing utility construction packages, work orders, drawings, or distribution design packages.


• Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, O-Calc, AutoCAD, GIS, or similar utility design software preferred.


• Familiarity with pole loading, utility clearances, NESC requirements, and distribution construction standards preferred.


• Associate's, vocational, or bachelor's degree in Drafting, Design Technology, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
