Sr. Transport Planning Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with a leading telecommunications organization, is seeking a Sr. Transport Planning Engineer to support critical SONET/DWDM network consolidation and migration initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team responsible for modernizing one of the nation's largest transport networks through strategic planning, capacity management, and network evolution efforts. This individual will create implementation-ready engineering packages, perform capacity analysis and forecasting, support SONET/DWDM consolidation initiatives, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure successful network modernization. The ideal candidate brings deep transport planning expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead planning efforts with minimal supervision.

Experience of the right candidate:

• 5+ years of transport planning or telecommunications network engineering experience


• Strong experience with SONET transport planning, capacity management, and network migrations


• Working knowledge of DWDM, optical transport networks, and telecommunications engineering principles


• Experience developing implementation-ready engineering and planning packages


• Familiarity with transport engineering tools such as TIRKS, CNDC ASPEN Portal, LCAM, MetaSolv, Fireworks, and CORE


• Experience with capacity forecasting, network data analysis, and project coordination


• Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills


• Previous large carrier experience is highly preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop transport network growth, capacity, and migration plans supporting SONET consolidation initiatives


• Perform capacity forecasting, network analysis, and engineering solution development across core and metro transport networks


• Create implementation-ready planning packages for design and field engineering teams


• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project stakeholders to support network modernization efforts


• Manage project budgets, capital funding requests, and planning documentation while ensuring compliance with telecommunications standards


• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams
