Tax Director

Job Purpose:

To lead and oversee the Tax and Bookkeeping departments, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to clients. This role involves strategic planning, managing senior managers, developing innovative solutions, and maintaining strong client relationships. The Director will act as a key leader in driving the success and growth of the departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Tax and Bookkeeping departments.


• Develop and implement departmental goals and objectives aligned with the company's vision and strategy.


• Oversee the performance of senior managers and ensure departmental goals are met.

Client Relations:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients.


• Ensure exceptional client service and satisfaction.


• Act as a senior point of contact for resolving complex client issues.

Team Management:

• Lead and develop senior managers within the Tax and Bookkeeping departments.


• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.


• Create development plans, track progress, and recognize achievements.

Operational Excellence:

• Oversee the development and implementation of efficient processes and best practices.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and accounting standards.


• Monitor and improve the quality of service delivery.

Financial Management:

• Manage departmental budgets and financial performance.


• Develop and implement strategies to achieve financial goals.


• Monitor and control expenses to ensure cost-effectiveness.

Process Improvement:

• Identify opportunities for improving departmental processes and systems.


• Implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and service quality.


• Lead problem-solving initiatives and guide teams through complex issues.

Conflict Resolution:

• Manage significant conflicts within and across departments.


• Develop and implement conflict resolution processes.


• Coach others on effective conflict management techniques.

Compliance and Risk Management:

• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.


• Identify and mitigate risks associated with tax and bookkeeping services.


• Maintain high standards of ethical behavior and integrity.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to various stakeholders.


• Lead collaborative efforts across teams and departments.


• Manage difficult conversations with tact and diplomacy.

Additional Duties:

• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Senior Executive Team to support the overall objectives of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field


• CPA or EA certification required.


• Minimum 10 years of experience in tax and accounting services with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.


• Proven experience in strategic planning and execution.


• Strong understanding of tax laws and accounting principles.


• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.


• Proficiency in tax and accounting software, including CCH, QuickBooks, and other relevant tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.


• Additional certifications or coursework related to advanced tax strategies or financial management.

• Team Efficiency: Timely completion of tax and bookkeeping tasks and projects.
