In this Senior Director Finance role, you lead the finance function for Optum Financial Commercial, driving FP&A, forecasting, performance management, and strategic decision support. You partner with Commercial leadership to steer revenue, margins, and investments, shaping long-range plans and executive reporting. Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the finance team for Commercial, setting priorities and fostering accountability
  • Act as the primary finance business partner to Commercial leadership on revenue, margin, OPEX, capex, earnings, cash flow, and long-range planning
  • Manage the Commercial planning and performance process including monthly results, forecasts, and long-range plans
  • Analyze drivers, pricing dynamics, client trends, payer/provider activity, and market conditions to generate insights and actions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial plans with business strategy and ensure disciplined execution
  • Improve forecast accuracy, transparency, and proactive risk/opportunity identification through analysis and recommendations
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives, pricing decisions, client opportunities, partnerships, cap investments, new products, and potential M&A impacting Commercial
  • Oversee month-end close, controls, variance analysis, and executive reporting to communicate performance clearly
  • Develop executive-ready narratives, dashboards, and materials detailing performance, drivers, risks, and actions
  • Champion process improvement, automation, and scalable finance practices to strengthen planning and decision quality
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in finance
  • Experience managing a full P&L or large financial portfolio
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial controls
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint, with ability to create executive-ready materials
  • Strong partnership with senior leaders and ability to translate analysis into strategy
  • Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Ability to manage ambiguity in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Experience handling confidential information in line with policy and standards
