Overview

In this role, you drive the development and optimization of acquisition credit criteria and underwriting policies to support sustainable growth within a strong control environment. You will own decision rules, risk segmentation, and approval cutoffs, using advanced analytics to balance growth, profitability, and risk. You'll lead cross-functional implementation from strategy to governance and present insights to senior leadership. This position offers the chance to shape credit policy in a large, mission-driven bank and work on complex risk analytics that impact customers and communities.

Responsibilities
  • Own acquisition credit criteria, underwriting policies, risk segmentation, and decision rules.
  • Analyze portfolio performance and emerging risk trends to improve risk-adjusted growth and customer outcomes.
  • Develop analytical solutions using SAS, SQL, Python, and visualization tools to evaluate policy performance and tradeoffs.
  • Optimize acquisition strategies balancing approval rates, delinquency and losses, profitability, and regulatory needs.
  • Translate analyses into actionable recommendations for senior leadership and business partners.
  • Partner with Product, Finance, Operations, Technology, Control Management, Compliance, and Fair Lending to design criteria.
  • Lead end-to-end implementation of credit criteria changes, including requirements, validation, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Establish monitoring frameworks and reporting for performance, drift, and risks.
  • Maintain governance, documentation, and controls across the credit criteria lifecycle for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance underwriting with new data sources, automation, and process improvements.
  • Coach and develop junior analysts to promote rigor and collaboration.
Key requirements
  • 5+ years in risk management, credit strategy, analytics, lending, or financial services.
  • Hands-on ownership of acquisition credit criteria, underwriting policy, or credit decision frameworks.
  • Strong judgment balancing growth, profitability, customer experience, and risk.
  • Advanced analytics and statistical techniques on large datasets to drive decisions.
  • Proficiency in SAS and SQL with repeatable analyses and monitoring.
  • Effective written and verbal communication to senior management.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong project and end-to-end execution discipline.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality deliverables.
  • Understanding of core credit risk concepts and portfolio drivers across consumer/business lending.
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or related quantitative field.
