Role Description The Lead Interior Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Washington, DC. This position is responsible for leading interior design projects from concept through completion, including space planning, design development, and coordination with architects and contractors. Day-to-day tasks include creating and reviewing design presentations, reviewing construction drawings, selecting FF&E, overseeing purchasing, and managing installation details. The Lead Interior Designer will guide the design team, maintain project timelines and budgets, and ensure design quality and consistency across all studio work. This role collaborates closely with clients and project partners to deliver spaces that meet aesthetic, functional, and budgetary goals.

Qualifications

  • Strong interior design skills, including Interior Design and Space Planning, with a portfolio demonstrating residential and/or commercial projects.
  • Proficiency in Architecture-related coordination and Construction Drawings, including interpreting plans and collaborating with contractors and trades.
  • Expertise in FF&E selection and specification, including furnishings, finishes, lighting, and materials aligned with project budgets and timelines.
  • Advanced proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar) and presentation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint).
  • Proven experience leading projects and teams, managing schedules, budgets, and client communication throughout the design and construction process.
  • Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to present and defend design concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience; professional licensure or certification is a plus. xevrcyc
  • Experience with high-end residential or boutique hospitality design is preferred, along with familiarity with local building codes and permitting processes.
