About the Role
We're seeking a Sustaining Mechanical Engineer to own the technical health, reliability, and lifecycle performance of our released drilling equipment. You'll bridge field reality and product evolution, turning customer issues, manufacturing feedback, and operational data into meaningful engineering improvements.
What You'll Do
- Own engineering support for released products from release through end of life
- Triage and resolve field, customer, and manufacturing issues; determine root cause and drive corrective action
- Serve as a rapid-response technical resource for Field Service, dealers, customers, and the production floor
- Design and redesign weldments, frames, masts, decks, guarding, and machined components for strength, durability, and manufacturability
- Create 3D models and detailed drawings to company standards, and perform testing to validate designs
- Initiate and drive ECRs/ECOs, maintaining configuration control across product families
- Use warranty, failure, and field data to identify systemic issues and drive reliability and cost-reduction improvements
- Serve as the primary technical link between Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Field Service
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent as deemed sufficient)
- 5+ years of mechanical design and/or sustaining engineering experience in heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or capital equipment manufacturing
- Strong structural design skills: weldments, load path and stress analysis, fatigue, and welded joint design (AWS D1.1 familiarity preferred)
- Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and controls systems
- Solid understanding of welding, machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
- Strong math and analytical skills, including GD&T
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD, plus FEA capability (SOLIDWORKS Simulation or equivalent)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred: Drilling equipment experience, hands-on field exposure, and PDM/PLM and ERP experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; stand, sit, kneel, and crawl; travel independently; and work safely in shop, office, and job site environments.
