About boisei labs
boisei labs is a venture studio that builds ambitious "tech for good" companies focused on social impact, green technology, and other meaningful problems. We develop multiple ventures in parallel, moving from early research and product definition through development, launch, and growth.
Our small team works quickly and tests ideas early. Because our ventures are at different stages, interns gain exposure to the decisions and work required to move a new company from an initial idea toward launch.
About the Internship
This paid summer internship gives students the opportunity to evaluate early-stage business ideas inside a venture studio. You will research markets, customers, competitors, and business models, then turn that work into clear recommendations that help the team decide what to test and build.
The role focuses on analysis and decision support rather than software implementation. Projects may change as new evidence challenges an assumption or reveals a stronger opportunity, so the internship suits someone who can work through ambiguity, explain what the evidence shows, and adjust when priorities shift.
What You Will Do
- Conduct market, industry, competitor, and emerging technology research for new venture concepts.
- Identify target customers, priority use cases, customer problems, and potential value propositions.
- Support market sizing and opportunity assessments, documenting sources, assumptions, and limitations.
- Compare business models, pricing approaches, and paths to market for early-stage concepts.
- Support customer discovery by preparing interview questions, organizing notes, and identifying recurring themes.
- Translate research into clear business requirements, decision criteria, and recommendations for product and engineering teammates.
- Create concise written briefs, presentations, and spreadsheet analyses for internal discussions.
- Track open questions, risks, assumptions, and next steps as projects evolve.
- Present findings and defend recommendations while remaining open to new evidence.
What We Are Looking For
- Current junior or senior pursuing an undergraduate degree, or a current graduate student, in business, economics, finance, marketing, information sciences, entrepreneurship, data analytics, or a related field is preferred.
- Interest in ethical technology, social impact, green technology, or other "tech for good" work.
- Research or analytical experience through coursework, case competitions, internships, student organizations, or independent projects.
- Ability to evaluate information from multiple sources and distinguish evidence from assumptions.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Clear writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization and attention to detail, including careful documentation of sources and calculations.
- Comfort working in an evolving environment where priorities and assumptions change frequently.
Preferred Experience
- Market research, competitive analysis, or industry research.
- Market sizing, basic financial modeling, or business case development.
- Customer discovery, user research, or survey analysis.
- Data visualization, basic SQL, or another quantitative analysis tool.
- Exposure to startups, venture studios, product management, consulting, or investment research.
What Makes This Internship Different
Interns at boisei labs do more than collect information. Your analysis may influence whether the team pursues an idea, how it defines the customer problem, and what the product team tests next. Previous interns have valued the opportunity to present their work, advocate for their ideas, join important meetings, and take meaningful ownership of a project.
boisei labs also treats ethics as part of the venture-building process. Interns will consider social and environmental impact alongside market evidence, customer needs, and business viability.
