Seeking a highly motivated Video Producer to create dynamic, digital- first video content for the U.S. Department of State. This position involves working in a fast-paced environment writing short scripts, editing video and creating engaging 2D and 3D motion graphics to explain and illustrate Department policy to diverse foreign and domestic audiences. Videos will be shareable on social media, mobile, broadcast, conferences and live events. You must adhere to strict deadlines and be an active, enthusiastic part of a creative team as well as engage with clients across the spectrum of State Department officials who are not fluent in video and walk them through the production process. · Create digital-first content as part of integrated strategies using styles and techniques to optimize social media engagement across a variety of major platforms.
· Produce and direct a majority of short-form videos (and some long-form programming) using mixed media - e.g. video, audio, graphics and animation.
· Perform professional non-linear video editing using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite and plugins such as Red Giant. Required familiarity with transcoding codecs. Professional audio/podcast editing/production experience required. Experience with AI video production tools preferred.
· Must have professional, client-based experience creating dynamic motion graphics. An expert knowledge in Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop is a must. Experience with 3D modeling software and AE scripting is preferred.
· Shoot video using professional cameras and kits - e.g. Sony A7, Canon EOS Mark III, DSLR, 360, interchangeable lenses and tools such as lights, sliders and gimbals to achieve an array of diverse production styles and techniques in challenging environments - e.g. “shoot and run” fashion. Experience must include lighting interior (studio and green screen) and exterior sets as well as basic field audio.
· Prepare scripts: excellent writing skills that are demonstrated in an error-free cover letter, resume and/or portfolio.
· Exercise editorial judgment for capturing newsworthy or historical events with an eye toward amplifying the Secretary’s messaging.
· Serve as an advisor/consultant to U.S. Embassies and American Spaces around the world.
· Work closely with Office staff to maintain and develop the technical capabilities of video production field and edit gear to include Studio production capability – e.g. green screen shooting and lighting. Ensure industry standards are met while also meeting the unique challenges of reaching audiences in low-bandwidth areas.
· Experience using social media analytics to inform creative and content decisions in the production of new videos with an eye towards improving reach and engagement.
· Knowledge of current events, U.S. politics, geopolitics, economics, foreign policy, history and a nose for news a plus.
· Public diplomacy experience is preferred as is experience working internationally or with international teams.
· Good independent work skills but also function as part of a team. Works with other offices and bureaus such as Regional teams, Copy Desk, Translations and outside contractors to ensure all aspects of a production, logistics and execution are seamless.
· Travel may be required (domestic and international). Travel may be on short notice and require weekend work or long days to deliver videos under tight deadlines.
· Position is physically demanding. Producers are required to haul and set up camera, ground-support, audio and lighting equipment as necessary for both studio and field production and to strike, pack, return and properly stow equipment after use. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
· Assist with annual inventory and keep government equipment clean and organized.
· Professional training in film, video production or related field and 5+ years of full‐time experience shooting and editing video. An online portfolio of skilled work is required. See links below for examples of type of work to be performed.
