The Food Services Supervisor oversees the operations of a commercial kitchen at Willows Services Center and plans, prepares, and coordinates the deliveries of meals to youth and young adults at Friends of Youth programs. The supervisor cultivates and stewards multiple community partnerships, including with food recovery programs, kitchen volunteers who help prepare meals on-site, and restaurants and community groups who donate meals and ingredients.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly

Reports To: Director - Shelter Services and Bridge Pointe
essential duties
Kitchen Oversight
  • Provide a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment for all young adults and volunteers
  • Prepare menus on a weekly basis.
  • Prepare and provide nutritious, well-balanced, and culturally responsive meals for dietary needs
  • Purchase necessary food items for program needs and for food preparation on the weekly menus. Maintain ample food supplies and basic staples.
  • Utilize existing food supplies and stay within the allotted food services budget.
  • Prepare and cook meals on days when there are not meal donations or ample kitchen volunteers.
  • Train and oversee employees and clients on food safety requirements.
  • Uphold food safety standards. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen.
  • Conduct a weekly inventory and maintain cleanliness of pantry, kitchen, freezer and cooking utensils. Drive the corrective action process related to Risk and Compliance throughout the agency.
  • Supervise, conduct performance management, and coach the Food Services Specialist.
  • Complete the necessary paperwork to ensure accountability, compliance, and reimbursement.
  • Develop and maintain community food supply sources.
  • Assist with specialized functions as directed by the Director.

  • Employee &Volunteer Supervision & Community Partnerships Coordination
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources, to recruit, interview, select, onboard, train, supervise and evaluate food service employees.
  • Train, onboard, schedule, supervise, and coach kitchen volunteers
  • Cultivate positive relationships with volunteers and recognize their efforts
  • Assist volunteers with meal preparation
  • Coordinate in-kind food donation needs and deliveries for sites
  • Work alongside the volunteer and in-kind team to coordinate community stakeholders' meetings for potential donation partnerships.
  • Kitchen Programming
    1. Plan and facilitate food services programming for young adults in shelter
    2. Manage applications for young adult culinary internships and document progress in Salesforce database
    3. Provide adequate supervision during culinary workshop events

    Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or General Certificate of Education (GED).
  • Minimum of two years of USDA Food Service experience.
  • Valid Serve Safe Certification, or attainment within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid food handler's permit required prior to hire.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

  • Additional Requirements
  • Must satisfactorily pass criminal history check.
  • Must satisfactorily pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to obtain one by date of employment).
  • Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business, must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
  • Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
  • Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
