General Maintenance Worker

Job Summary

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining public medians, ponds, sidewalks, and other city-owned outdoor areas. This role involves keeping public spaces clean, safe, and well-maintained through litter and debris removal, mowing, weed control, herbicide application, and seasonal snow removal.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and cleanup of city medians, public ponds, and other designated public areas.


• Collect and remove trash, sand, branches, wood, and other debris from public spaces.


• Apply herbicides to control weeds and unwanted vegetation in designated areas, following applicable safety procedures and regulations.


• Mow grass and maintain landscaped areas, medians, and public grounds.


• Remove weeds and overgrown vegetation from medians, pond areas, sidewalks, and other city properties.


• Perform seasonal maintenance activities, including snow and ice removal from sidewalks during winter.


• Operate and maintain basic landscaping and groundskeeping tools and equipment safely.


• Follow established safety procedures when handling equipment, chemicals, and outdoor maintenance tasks.


• Identify and report hazardous conditions, damaged property, or maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor.


• Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to perform manual labor and outdoor maintenance activities in various weather conditions.


• Ability to lift, carry, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods.


• Ability to operate basic groundskeeping and maintenance equipment or willingness to learn.


• Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures.


• Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, public works, or general maintenance is preferred but not required.
