About the Role

Seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics-ready data models across SQL Server and AWS Redshift. This role will use a Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) to transform raw data from sales, e-commerce, finance, and operations systems into trusted data for reporting and analytics.

You will work closely with BI analysts, business stakeholders, and IT's data platform team to deliver reliable, high-quality data that powers Tableau dashboards and supports business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using a Medallion architecture.
  • Develop and optimize T-SQL, Redshift SQL, stored procedures, views, and queries.
  • Integrate data from databases, SaaS applications, APIs, and flat files using ETL/ELT tools.
  • Design dimensional data models, star schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Implement data quality checks, reconciliation, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Support the migration of legacy SQL Server workloads to AWS data lake and Redshift environments.
  • Collaborate with BI analysts and IT teams to deliver reliable, analytics-ready datasets.
  • Follow security, access control, source control, deployment, and change management standards.
  • Maintain data dictionaries, pipeline documentation, data lineage, and governance practices.
  • Automate data processing and orchestration using Python, workflow tools, and CI/CD pipelines.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional data engineering experience building production data pipelines.
  • Advanced SQL Server skills, including T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, query plans, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Redshift, including schema design, distribution keys, sort keys, and query optimization.
  • Experience implementing Medallion architecture or an equivalent layered data architecture.
  • Experience with at least two ETL/ELT tools or approaches, such as Fivetran, AWS Glue, SSIS, Airbyte, Matillion, Informatica, or Python.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services, including S3, IAM, Glue, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong dimensional modeling skills, including Kimball methodology, star schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Experience with Git-based source control and structured deployment processes.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Fivetran connectors, schema changes, sync scheduling, and usage-cost management.
  • Python skills for data processing and automation using pandas, boto3, or PySpark.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or Dagster.
  • Familiarity with Apache Iceberg, Parquet, Athena, or Redshift Spectrum.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience preparing and optimizing data sources for Tableau dashboards and reporting.
  • Knowledge of data governance, PII handling, and role-based access controls.
  • AWS certification, such as AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate.

What Success Looks Like

  • Reliable, well-monitored data pipelines that deliver accurate and timely data.
  • High-performing SQL Server and Redshift workloads.
  • Consistent, trusted business metrics across reporting and analytics.
  • Improved automation, data quality, and documentation.
  • Seamless collaboration with BI analysts, IT, and business stakeholders.
