Job Description

Williamsburg House is a long-term recovery residence in Brooklyn. We’re hiring a Senior Recovery Case Manager (substance use) to guide a caseload of 8 to 12 clients through the arc of early recovery post treatment: stabilizing, rebuilding relationships, taking on responsibility, and moving toward independence. On-site, ~40 hours/week, combining case management days with residential shifts (nights, weekends and holidays included). $31.25 to $36.00/hour ($65,000 to $75,000/year annualized)

Why this role

  • A focused caseload. Enough time with each client to manage the case with close attention and follow-through.

  • Real judgment. You shape the direction of cases, not just execute someone else’s plan.

  • Autonomy without isolation. Weekly clinical supervision, clear escalation pathways and colleagues to think with.

  • Time to see growth. Clients stay long enough for you to watch the progress you helped create.

What you’ll do

  • Meet with clients regularly, set priorities together, and follow up on whether plans are happening

  • Address resistance, dishonesty and boundary-testing directly while keeping the relationship intact

  • Coach routines, work or school, money, relationships and recovery community involvement, then step back as clients take over

  • Coordinate with therapists, psychiatrists, outpatient programs and families, and help families support recovery without rescuing

  • Synthesize shift notes, tox results, medication records and provider updates to catch rising risk early

  • Work residential shifts with the team, which gives you a close view of your clients’ habits and interactions

  • Respond first to relapse and crisis, then hand off to the residential team once de-escalated

  • Assess readiness for step-down and aftercare throughout a client’s stay

What makes it senior

You’ll lead during difficult moments, consult on other case managers’ cases, mentor staff, help hire and onboard, and own a program improvement. You’ll also join the on-call rotation and help the Director keep operations steady. This is an advanced practitioner role, not a people manager role. Leadership is an available path, not a requirement.

What you bring

  • 3 to 6 years in addiction treatment, recovery services, sober living or behavioral health

  • 2 to 3 years of independent responsibility for moving clients forward over time (referral-only work doesn’t count)

  • Experience with co-occurring conditions, medications for addiction treatment, relapse response, discharge planning and the continuum of care

  • Comfort with LGBTQIA+ clients and clients of all identities, and a commitment to affirming, non-shaming care

We’d especially love: a sober living or residential background; a credential such as CASAC-T/CASAC, CARC/CRPA, ARISE/CIP or LMSW (strong experience can stand in for a credential); familiarity with 12-step, SMART and Dharma; trauma-informed care.

Success looks like

  • 90 days: you own your caseload, can have hard conversations and know when to escalate.

  • 6 months: you’re a trusted voice in case conference and have taken on a program improvement.

  • 1 year: we rely on your judgment, your clients have made real progress, and you’ve helped a colleague grow.

The reality: Recovery isn’t linear. Clients relapse, plans fail, and work sometimes spills into off-days. You’ll have clear escalation paths, shared crisis responsibility and a team to hand off to.

Schedule and on-call: ~40 hours on-site, varied availability on days, nights, weekends and holidays. On-call 1 to 2 weekends a month, plus periodic coverage set by the Director.

Benefits: Paid vacation & sick time, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), paid family leave, weekly clinical supervision, annual professional development budget, chef-prepared meals on shift, commuter benefits, EAP, pet-friendly workplace.

To apply: Send your resume with a few sentences on the recovery work you do best. Williamsburg House is an equal opportunity employer.
