Atlas is excited to be working with a well-established, privately owned veterinary hospital in Chicago that has been under the same ownership for 36 years.
The practice has built a distinctive reputation with a carefully established client base that values high-quality medicine and is willing to invest in recommended care. For a veterinarian who enjoys internal medicine, dentistry, and taking the time to get cases right, this is an opportunity to work outside the constraints often associated with corporate practice.
The hospital operates from a renovated Victorian building with contemporary facilities and modern equipment, including digital radiography, ultrasound, an in-house laboratory, and a full surgical setup. General practice is the focus, with particular strengths in internal medicine and dentistry. Routine procedures include spays, neuters, dental work, and mass removals, while complex surgery and cases requiring overnight monitoring are referred to nearby specialist hospitals. Appointments typically run for 30 to 45 minutes, with doctors able to shape their schedule around their approach to consultations.
The team includes experienced veterinarians, 10 certified veterinary technicians, and skilled veterinary assistants, with doctors supported by two team members. Staff retention is unusually strong, with several veterinarians having worked alongside the owner for 20 to 25 years. The practice has a serious commitment to Fear Free care, and this is reflected in how the team approaches patients, clients, and one another. The owner is looking to bring in another experienced clinician who can contribute to the team while helping maintain its standards as long-serving doctors gradually look towards reducing their hours.
This role will suit a veterinarian who enjoys the clinical and communication side of general practice. Clients expect clear explanations, thorough recommendations, and a doctor who is comfortable discussing the best course of care. The ideal person will be confident in their clinical judgement, comfortable acknowledging when they need a second opinion, and able to work well with a highly experienced support team. The typical schedule is four days per week with a rotating Saturday coverage approximately once a month. Sundays are closed, there is no routine overnight emergency requirement, and part-time arrangements may be considered.
