Senior Accountant

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a growing organization in the construction industry. This is a hands-on, individual contributor position responsible for managing the full accounting cycle and supporting the financial operations of the business.

The ideal candidate will have construction accounting experience, strong job and project accounting knowledge, and hands-on QuickBooks experience. This position will oversee accounting activities ranging from AP and AR through month-end close and financial statement preparation, while also managing payroll processing and complex project billing.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle as a hands-on individual contributor
• Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Perform job costing and project accounting for construction projects
• Prepare and process complex customer and project billing
• Manage payroll processing
• Complete monthly account reconciliations and month-end close
• Prepare monthly financial statements and financial reporting
• Monitor project costs and maintain accurate project accounting records
• Research and resolve billing, accounting, and reconciliation discrepancies
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity
• Support external audit requests and provide necessary schedules and documentation
• Partner with operations and project teams to ensure accurate accounting and billing for projects
• Assist with additional accounting and financial projects as needed

Qualifications

• Construction industry accounting experience required
• QuickBooks experience required
• Strong experience with job costing and project accounting
• Experience handling complex/project-based billing
• Full-cycle accounting experience, including AP, AR, general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement preparation
• Hands-on payroll processing experience
• Strong attention to detail and ability to independently manage multiple accounting responsibilities
• Ability to work onsite 5 days per week in Gaithersburg, MD
