Design Engineer

Amazon Services, LLC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of new distribution centers and warehouse and enhancements to existing facilities. This role is responsible for delivering end-to-end building and process design solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational capacity across a growing logistics network.

The Design Engineer will serve as a key contributor in the planning, review, and approval of facility designs, leveraging expertise in material flow, process engineering, labor placement, material handling systems, equipment integration, and building layouts. The successful candidate will partner with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that support operational excellence and customer-centric delivery network.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, review, and approval of new delivery station layouts and capacity expansion projects.


• Develop facility and process designs that optimize material flow, labor utilization, equipment placement, and operational efficiency.


• Collaborate with Design Managers, CAD Designers, Real Estate, Pre-Construction, Operations, Finance, Capacity Planning, Launch, and Engineering teams to create scalable design solutions.


• Support delivery station expansion, retrofit, and continuous improvement initiatives to increase site performance and throughput.


• Implement and maintain design standards in partnership with worldwide engineering, safety, and process engineering teams.


• Incorporate new operational processes, safety requirements, and template updates into standard design packages.


• Participate in and lead cross-functional design reviews to validate design concepts and gain stakeholder alignment.


• Create, review, and support construction documents, facility layouts, process flow diagrams, and drafting deliverables.


• Utilize engineering principles to analyze workflows and identify opportunities for process optimization.


• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring schedules, milestones, and stakeholder expectations are achieved.


• Build strong partnerships with internal customers, vendors, architects, and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.


• Communicate design concepts, project updates, and technical recommendations through presentations, reports, and written documentation.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent operations and engineering experience.


• 3+ years of experience in facility design, process engineering, industrial engineering, building layout design, or related disciplines.


• Experience working within logistics, distribution, fulfillment, manufacturing, production, or industrial environments.


• Proficiency with design and drafting software, including:


• AutoCAD


• Revit


• SolidWorks


• Microsoft Visio


• Experience creating and reviewing facility layouts, construction documentation, and engineering drawings.


• Demonstrated success driving process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.


• Knowledge of material handling systems, workflow optimization, and facility operations.


• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing facilities for delivery stations, warehouses, fulfillment centers, distribution centers, or manufacturing operations.


• Knowledge of conveyor systems, material handling equipment (MHE), and industrial automation solutions.


• Exposure to programming, data analytics, data science, or database technologies used for operational optimization.


• Experience collaborating with architects, construction teams, real estate professionals, and facility deployment teams.


• Familiarity with facility capacity planning, operational modeling, and process simulation methodologies.


• Experience facilitating engineering design reviews and stakeholder workshops.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills focused on improving safety, quality, productivity, and capacity.


• Ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving environment while balancing competing priorities.
