We’re hiring a Software Engineering Director in Sioux Falls, SD for a role with real technical depth and the opportunity to shape the team, technology, and engineering culture behind complex, mission-critical systems.

We’re looking for an engineer who moved into leadership and still wants to understand how the system works—someone who asks thoughtful questions in design reviews, recognizes risk early, and gives technical leads room to own their decisions.

The scope includes leading a software department: hiring and developing people, staffing, resource allocation, roadmaps, strategic planning, and engineering processes. Experience leading multiple teams or a smaller department is relevant; you don’t need to have run a large organization.

Technical credibility matters. You won’t need to be the primary architect, but you should be able to evaluate complex architectures, challenge assumptions, and guide tradeoffs around reliability, performance, delivery, and maintainability.

Your impact would include:

• Building the team and developing technical leaders.


• Turning priorities into realistic plans and removing obstacles.


• Strengthening automation, testing, CI/CD, tooling, and software reuse.


• Partnering with engineering, product, and operations leaders.

The strongest fit brings:

• Experience delivering software as part of a larger engineered system, including integration, reliability, verification, and long-term product development.


• Embedded, distributed, networked, hardware-integrated, aerospace, or defense experience would be especially relevant.


• We’re looking for 8+ years developing complex software, 2+ years leading engineers or technical teams, and a relevant technical bachelor’s degree—along with curiosity, accountability, and sound judgment.
