Lead Computer Vision Researcher

Our client is a prominent employee owned defense technology firm specializing in sophisticated security solutions for national interests. They are currently seeking a talented Computer Vision Scientist to join their technical team in Falls Church Virginia. This role focuses on the development and implementation of advanced algorithms for image analysis and scene understanding to support critical national security missions.

In this position you will design and refine workflows for object detection classification and 3D reconstruction. You will be responsible for evaluating algorithm performance creating custom metrics and identifying the root causes of technical errors to implement effective solutions. The work involves prototyping emerging computer vision technologies and adapting Python codebases to enhance imagery visualization and processing.

Key Responsibilities

Create algorithms for image processing and scene understanding

Develop and maintain Python based tools for data visualization

Quantify algorithm strengths and weaknesses through rigorous testing

Prepare technical briefings and high quality graphics for stakeholders

Collaborate with senior scientific staff to meet project milestones

Adapt to diverse technical roles across multiple project types

Required Qualifications

Current Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is mandatory

Degree in Physics Engineering Mathematics or Computer Science

Strong proficiency in Python and standard image processing libraries

Hands on experience with modern computer vision frameworks

Background in research related to sensor data or machine learning

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear writing

United States citizenship is required

Preferred Skills

Experience with Vision Language Models or Foundation Models

Knowledge of 3D modeling and MLOps

Familiarity with C plus plus or CUDA for GPU acceleration

Experience with Synthetic Aperture Radar or satellite imagery

Understanding of cloud computing tools like AWS Docker and Kubernetes

Knowledge of detection and tracking estimation algorithms

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position is tiered based on experience levels. Candidates with two to five years of experience or an advanced degree can expect a range between 110,000 and 165,000 dollars annually.
