This role combines hands-on AML/KYC expertise with people leadership to ensure timely, accurate reviews, well-supported decisions, and consistent application of compliance requirements across AXI’s annuity business.

The Manager will lead analysts and/or supervisors, resolve escalated cases, and strengthen procedures, controls, and workflows as the business grows. This role partners closely with internal teams and third-party administrators to maintain effective, well-documented AML/KYC operations.

Key Responsibilities

AML/KYC Operations

  • Manage daily customer identification and verification, customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring activities.

  • Oversee customer risk assessments, higher-risk customer reviews, and ongoing monitoring in accordance with AXI’s policies and procedures.

  • Assign and prioritize work, monitor case aging and backlogs, and ensure reviews meet established quality and turnaround expectations.

  • Review case documentation and decisions for completeness, consistency, and appropriate escalation.

Investigations & Escalations

  • Lead the review and resolution of complex or escalated AML/KYC cases, including screening alerts, unusual activity, and incomplete or conflicting customer information.

  • Ensure investigations document relevant facts, analysis, and recommendations; escalate significant risks and unresolved concerns to Compliance leadership.

  • Support suspicious activity reporting, including case documentation, narrative preparation, and coordination of review and filing within applicable deadlines.

  • Identify recurring issues and control gaps, recommend corrective actions, and track assigned remediation through completion.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide coaching, training, and performance management to analysts and/or supervisors, with clear expectations for quality, productivity, and accountability.

  • Support hiring and onboarding, strengthen investigative skills, and promote consistent application of procedures and sound judgment.

  • Assess workloads and team capabilities, address performance issues, and communicate staffing or training needs.

Policies, Procedures & Controls

  • Maintain AML/KYC procedures, job aids, and operating guidance; implement policy and regulatory changes in daily workflows.

  • Perform or oversee quality reviews, identify documentation or decision-making deficiencies, and provide timely feedback and follow-up.

  • Support AML/KYC risk assessments, control testing, audits, and regulatory examinations by preparing records, responding to requests, and completing assigned remediation.

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen controls through workflow changes, automation, and system enhancements; support testing and implementation.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Reporting

  • Partner with Operations, Legal, Risk, Technology, Internal Audit, and other business teams to resolve AML/KYC questions and implement practical solutions.

  • Coordinate with third-party administrators and distribution partners to obtain required information, resolve exceptions, and reinforce AML/KYC expectations.

  • Prepare reporting on case volumes, aging, quality, escalations, and risk trends; communicate emerging concerns and recommended actions.

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and accessible records that support management oversight, audit readiness, and applicable retention requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; CAMS or a comparable AML certification preferred.

  • 5+ years of relevant compliance experience, including hands-on AML/KYC reviews, investigations, and transaction monitoring.

  • Experience leading, coaching, and evaluating compliance analysts or supervisors.

  • Strong working knowledge of applicable U.S. AML requirements, Bank Secrecy Act requirements, OFAC sanctions, customer due diligence, and suspicious activity reporting.

  • Insurance or annuity industry experience strongly preferred; experience working with third-party administrators or distribution partners is a plus.

  • Experience with AML/KYC screening, monitoring, and case management systems, quality reviews, and operational reporting.

  • Sound judgment, strong analytical and investigative skills, and the ability to document clear, well-supported decisions.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across teams.

  • High ethical standards, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
