Structural Design Engineer

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Preconstruction Engineer to bring a critical engineering function in-house and support the front-end planning of precast and prestressed concrete projects. This role will work closely with clients, engineering leadership, drafting teams, and production facilities to ensure all engineering requirements are addressed before projects move into execution. The position will play a key role in helping our client to expand into increasingly complex projects, including parking garages and data centers.

Key Responsibilities

Preconstruction Engineering & Project Planning

• Coordinate and ensure all engineering and Professional Engineer (PE) requirements are satisfied prior to project launch.


• Support front-end technical planning and engineering coordination for new projects.


• Review project requirements and identify engineering needs, constraints, and design considerations early in the process.


• Collaborate with engineering, drafting, and production teams to ensure project readiness and alignment with manufacturing capabilities.


• Assist in transitioning preconstruction engineering responsibilities from external consultants to an internal function.

Client & Project Support

• Meet directly with clients to discuss project requirements, technical considerations, and preconstruction planning.


• Support the planning of complex projects, including parking structures and data centers.


• Provide technical guidance and engineering insight throughout the preconstruction phase.


• Communicate technical information effectively to both customers and internal stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner closely with the Engineering Manager, design teams, plant personnel, and project stakeholders.


• Visit manufacturing facilities periodically to understand production challenges and improve engineering coordination.


• Support continuous improvement in project planning, engineering readiness, and communication across departments.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.


• Experience in preconstruction, structural engineering, design engineering, or a related technical environment.


• Strong client-facing communication and project coordination skills.


• Ability to manage multiple priorities and support projects through the preconstruction process.


• Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Preferred

• Experience with precast or prestressed concrete structures.


• Parking garage or parking structure engineering experience.


• Knowledge of PE requirements and engineering deliverables.


• Experience working directly with clients on technical project planning.


• Background with structural engineering firms, precast manufacturers, or consulting engineering organizations.


• Exposure to data centers or other complex concrete structures.
