Job Title: CockroachDB Database Engineer

Location: Plano, TX and Charlotte, NC

Duration: 12–18 months

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled CockroachDB Database Engineer to design, develop, and operationalize an enterprise-scale Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform on Linux. This role requires extensive hands-on experience with CockroachDB, distributed database architecture, and infrastructure automation using Ansible and shell scripting. The ideal candidate will drive platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency across enterprise database environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CockroachDB database platforms and enterprise DBaaS capabilities.


• Develop automation frameworks using Ansible playbooks, shell scripting, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.


• Build self-service database provisioning solutions to support application development teams.


• Design and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient database architectures, including multi-region deployments.


• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.


• Implement monitoring, alerting, failover, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities.


• Establish and enforce engineering standards, reference architectures, security controls, and compliance requirements.


• Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex CockroachDB issues.


• Leverage AI-powered coding assistants to improve development productivity and automation where appropriate.


• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, and engineering teams to continuously improve platform performance and reliability.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments.


• Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB administration, architecture, and troubleshooting.


• Deep understanding of distributed database systems, including replication, consistency, and consensus models.


• Advanced proficiency in Ansible playbook development and automation.


• Strong shell scripting experience, particularly Bash or KornShell.


• Experience designing and supporting highly available, multi-region database architectures.


• Expertise in database performance optimization, monitoring, and capacity planning.


• Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles and automated provisioning.


• Experience with database security, encryption, role-based access control (RBAC), and regulatory compliance.


• Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, failover, and disaster recovery planning.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI coding assistants, such as GitHub Copilot.


• Familiarity with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.


• Experience integrating database automation and provisioning into CI/CD pipelines.


• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools, including Splunk, Prometheus, and Grafana.


• Experience working in financial services or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
