Job Description

About the role

We're hiring a hands-on staff accountant to own bank reconciliations and accounts payable, reporting to the Corporate Controller as one of a five-person accounting team. Roth Industries is a fast-growing food manufacturer that supplies leading national retailers.

The job is to keep cash and AP right every day: every bank line matched, every bill entered once, every payment applied to the right bill, and nothing missing from the books. That keeps the monthly close on time and the books audit-ready as the company prepares for institutional investors.

What you'll do

  • Bank reconciliations: reconcile our operating accounts monthly, and keep them current weekly. Work through unmatched bank lines and stale items in the books: group matches, payments recorded in the wrong account, ACH returns, wires and checks.

  • Find missing expenses: spot bank payments with no bill (utilities, insurance, loan payments, card charges, auto-debits), code them to the right account and enter them.

  • Accounts payable: enter vendor bills daily from our intake cover sheet and import file, check for duplicates, and record and apply payments, including ACH, wire, debit card and payment plans.

  • Vendor reconciliations: get statements from key vendors (food suppliers, logistics, packaging, landlord, professional firms), tie them to our AP, and clear paid or duplicate bills.

  • Intercompany: record cross-entity payments, for example when one entity pays another's bill, along with transfers between accounts and amounts due to and from our investor.

  • Loans and prepaids: split loan and line-of-credit payments into principal and interest, and keep the insurance premium schedule.

  • Month-end: deliver the bank reconciliations and AP close on the Controller's close calendar, flag issues with a short write-up, and keep a clean list of open questions.

  • Controls: watch for duplicate or fraudulent invoices and vendor ACH set-up errors, and get approvals for anything that touches inventory or a closed period. Help document procure-to-pay and treasury controls, and keep reconciliations and AP schedules ready for the auditors' PBC requests.

  • Journal entries: prepare recurring and adjusting entries (accruals, reclasses, prepaid and loan schedules, intercompany) for the Controller's review

Bank reconciliations, AP and journal entries are the core of the job. This is a small, fast-moving team, so you'll also back up wherever it's needed. For example:

  • Payroll posting: record Paycor payroll journals, tax and benefit debits, and refunds

  • Customer invoicing: prepare and send customer invoices, and help with order fulfillment paperwork

  • Office and admin support: vendor setup and W-9s, filing and document requests, and general office tasks

  • Other back-up work as needed: for example, processing contractor pay applications for the facility expansion

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years in accounting, with bank reconciliations and AP as a core part of the job

  • Hands-on experience with an accounting system: bills, bill payments, vendor prepayments and credits, journal entries and bank reconciliation

  • Good Excel skills

  • A solid grasp of accrual accounting: expense vs. capital vs. prepaid, accruals, loans and intercompany

  • Detail-oriented and persistent

  • Clear written communication: short, specific questions and summaries for the Controller
