Job Description

Tired of designing in simulation and never seeing your work leave the lab? This one's different.

iRiS Recruiting Solutions is running a confidential search for an 80-year-old, industry-leading power supply manufacturer — now backed by a global public parent — where engineers design real hardware end-to-end and watch it go into production in the same building.

Here's why engineers actually want this seat:

⚡ You own it, start to finish. Schematic through EMC compliance, simulation through the lab bench. No hand-off to "someone else" for the parts that matter.

? Design and production sit side by side. The company's manufacturing facility is owned and operated on-site — so the feedback loop between what you design and what actually gets built is short. No waiting months to find out if your design survives contact with reality.

? Your work shows up everywhere. Medical devices (lasers, MRI), semiconductor fabs, defense systems, broadcast, industrial equipment — this isn't a niche product line, it's power infrastructure the world quietly depends on.

? Room to grow into more ownership. This is a company that has been building power supplies for 80 years and is still investing in its people — a great next step for someone who wants their design responsibility to keep expanding, not plateau.

? Small-company feel, global backing. A few hundred people across engineering, manufacturing, and sales — big enough to matter, small enough that your work doesn't disappear into a bureaucracy.

If you're a power electronics engineer and you want to actually build things instead of just modeling them — let's talk. Company details shared once we connect.

Job Title: Power Electronics Engineer

Department: Engineering

Industry: Power Conversion & High-Voltage Systems OEM

Company Overview

The company is an established global OEM specializing in advanced power conversion technologies and high-voltage systems. The company's hardware serves as the core power infrastructure for mission-critical electronic systems worldwide across industrial, defense, medical, and specialized commercial markets.

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to help lead power circuit design, topology evaluation, and design validation for next-generation power supply platforms. This role spearheads new product development (NPD) initiatives from concept through full production release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Topology Evaluation & Architecture: Analyze and evaluate advanced power circuit topologies to balance cost, efficiency, density, and performance for new product architectures.

  • Simulation & Prototyping: Perform circuit simulation, mathematical analysis, and benchtop testing using industry-standard tools to verify circuit performance prior to fabrication.

  • Design Validation & Reliability Testing: Formulate comprehensive test plans and execute functional, safety, thermal, and reliability testing across specified operating envelopes.

  • Documentation & Change Management: Document design validation results, generate clear engineering reports, and drive Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for design modifications and component updates.

  • Mentorship & Technical Leadership: Guide and mentor laboratory technicians and junior engineering staff in circuit debugging, testing protocols, and design best practices.

  • Root Cause & Application Support: Conduct root cause failure analysis on field returns and provide advanced technical engineering support for customer application inquiries.

  • Design for Compliance: Ensure designs strictly adhere to relevant product safety standards, reliability benchmarks, and target unit cost objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related technical discipline (Advanced degree or certifications welcomed).

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics engineering, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), or power converter design.

  • Converter Design Mastery: Proven experience with the design, debugging, and testing of power converters, including magnetics design (transformers, inductors) and closed-loop control design.

  • Simulation Tools: Proficiency in one or more simulation/modeling suites (LTspice, OrCAD PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, or Mathcad).

  • Semiconductor & PCB Knowledge: Solid grasp of modern power semiconductor technologies and familiarity with multi-layer PCB design practices.

  • EMC/EMI & Safety Standards: Strong working knowledge of high-frequency switching EMC mitigation techniques and regulatory electrical safety standards.

  • Communication & Analysis: High-level problem-solving capabilities with effective technical presentation and reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience developing high-power converter platforms in the 1 kW to 50 kW range.

  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage architectures featuring output voltages greater than 1 kV.

ITAR Compliance Requirements

Due to work on hardware and technical data subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), candidates must be a "U.S. Person" as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident / Green Card Holder, Asylee, or Refugee).
