A growing professional services firm in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago is seeking an Accounting Manager to take ownership of its accounting and financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, or senior-level accounting professional ready to step into a broader leadership role with direct exposure to ownership.

The Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting while providing financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic support to leadership. This position offers significant ownership and visibility within a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including AP, AR, reconciliations, and billing-related activities
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reporting
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow reporting
• Monitor expenses, collections, profitability, and overall financial performance
• Maintain strong internal controls and accurate financial records
• Support payroll-related accounting activities
• Oversee trust account procedures, reconciliations, and compliance
• Partner directly with ownership on financial planning and business decisions
• Coordinate with external accounting, tax, banking, and financial partners
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
• Strong understanding of financial statements, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management
• Experience with QuickBooks Online or a similar accounting system
• Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a smaller company environment
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail

Preferred Experience

• Professional services, law firm, or accounting firm experience
• Experience with attorney trust accounts, IOLTA compliance, or legal billing
• Payroll experience
• CPA, CMA, MBA, or similar credential

Compensation & Benefits

• $70,000-$90,000 base salary, based on experience and qualifications
• Discretionary bonus opportunity
• 2 weeks paid vacation, increasing to 3 weeks after 5 years and 4 weeks after 10 years
• 6 paid sick days & 2 paid personal days
• Approximately 12 company-paid holidays annually
• Health and dental coverage with a 30% employee cost share
• Company-paid life insurance of approximately $12,500-$25,000, based on compensation
• Optional vision coverage available at the employee's cost

Location: Northwest Suburbs of Chicago near Barrington, IL
