As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year in the Education, Training & E-Learning department, you will support students’ academic and personal growth in partnership with public schools. Working on a diverse City Year AmeriCorps team, you will provide in-class tutoring in core subjects, lead small-group and one-on-one interventions, and offer mentoring that builds students’ confidence and social-emotional skills. You will collaborate closely with teachers and school staff, track student progress, and help create an inclusive, engaging classroom climate. City Year offers robust training, leadership development, and a supportive culture centered on social justice, teamwork, and professional growth. Provide academic tutoring in core subjects during class and designated intervention times Lead small-group and one-on-one sessions to reinforce key concepts and skills Mentor students to support social-emotional development, confidence, and engagement Collaborate with teachers to align tutoring support with classroom instruction and goals Monitor and document student progress using established tools and reporting systems Help create an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging learning environment Support classroom management and routines as directed by teachers and school staff Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and professional development sessions Engage with families and school community events when appropriate Model City Year’s values of service, social justice, and teamwork in all interactions Academic tutoring in math and literacy Lesson and activity planning support Student progress monitoring and data entry Classroom management support Youth mentoring and coaching Small-group instruction techniques Basic educational technology and e-learning tools Communication with teachers and school staff Cultural competency and inclusive practices Time management and organization in a school setting Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k City Year AmeriCorps eligibility (U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident) Background check clearance for working with youth Experience in tutoring or youth mentoring preferred Training in diversity, equity, and inclusion preferred5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
