As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you’ll serve full-time in a public school, providing small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, supporting classroom instruction, and mentoring students to build social-emotional skills. You will track student progress, collaborate with teachers, and help lead enrichment and after-school activities. City Year offers a collaborative, inclusive culture focused on social justice, leadership development, and personal growth, with ongoing training, coaching, and opportunities to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives. Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects during and after school Support classroom instruction under the guidance of partner teachers Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, confidence, and positive academic habits Monitor and track student performance and attendance using established tools Communicate regularly with teachers and school staff about student progress and needs Help plan and facilitate enrichment, after-school, and extended learning activities Engage families and caregivers, when appropriate, to support student success Participate in City Year training, coaching, and professional development sessions Collaborate with a diverse AmeriCorps team to set and achieve school-based goals Model City Year’s values of inclusivity, service, and social justice in daily interactions Tutoring in math Tutoring in reading and writing Lesson and activity planning Classroom and behavior management support Student progress monitoring and data entry Basic educational technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom, MS Office) Youth mentoring and relationship-building Communication with teachers and school staff Time management and organization Cultural competence working in diverse school communities Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k City Year AmeriCorps eligibility (U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident) Background check clearance for working with youth Prior tutoring, mentoring, or youth development experience preferred Training in classroom management or youth behavior support (preferred) Coursework in education, psychology, or related field (preferred)5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
