As an Academic Tutor and Mentor at City Year, you will serve in K–12 public schools to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth. In partnership with teachers, you’ll provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring, lead classroom support, and help track student progress. You’ll build strong relationships, coach positive behaviors, and create an inclusive, encouraging learning environment. City Year offers robust training, professional development, and a collaborative culture grounded in social justice, leadership, and personal growth while you make a meaningful impact in your community. Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects (e.g., math, reading, writing). Collaborate with classroom teachers to support lesson delivery and student engagement. Monitor and track student attendance, behavior, and academic progress. Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, confidence, and growth mindset. Support classroom management and create a positive, inclusive learning environment. Assist with planning and facilitating after-school or enrichment programs. Communicate regularly with school staff about student needs and progress. Maintain accurate documentation and data on tutoring sessions and outcomes. Participate in City Year trainings, coaching, and professional development sessions. Engage in team meetings and service projects that support the school community.
