As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you will serve in a partner public school to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth. Working closely with teachers, you’ll provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core subjects, reinforce classroom learning, and help manage a positive learning environment. You will build trusting relationships with students, serve as a mentor and role model, and track their progress toward key goals. City Year offers training, coaching, and a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on educational equity, leadership development, and personal growth. Provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects to K-12 students during and after school. Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, goal-setting habits, and confidence in the classroom. Collaborate with teachers to align tutoring sessions with classroom instruction and student learning plans. Track and report student progress, attendance, and engagement using school or City Year systems. Support positive classroom environments, including behavior reinforcement and learning routines. Participate in professional development, coaching, and team meetings focused on equity and student success. Engage families and school staff to encourage consistent student participation and progress. Model inclusive, culturally responsive practices that reflect City Year’s commitment to social justice.
