As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you’ll serve full-time in a partner public school, providing academic support, small-group tutoring, and near-peer mentoring to students. Working with a diverse AmeriCorps team, you’ll help improve attendance, reinforce classroom instruction, and foster students’ social-emotional skills. You will collaborate with teachers, track student progress, and participate in ongoing training and professional development. This role is ideal for individuals committed to education, social justice, and personal growth in a collaborative, inclusive environment. Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects Support teachers during class through classroom assistance and behavior support Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, confidence, and motivation Monitor and track student attendance, engagement, and academic progress Collaborate with school staff and AmeriCorps teammates to plan interventions Communicate regularly with supervisors about student progress and challenges Participate in ongoing training, reflection, and professional development sessions Support school-wide events, family engagement, and service projects Use basic data tools to document services and outcomes Uphold City Year’s values of equity, inclusion, and social justice in daily work Tutoring in core academic subjects (e.g., math, reading, writing) Classroom support and student engagement Youth mentoring and relationship building Basic data entry and progress monitoring Time management and organization Written and verbal communication Collaboration and teamwork in school settings Basic behavior management strategies Cultural competence and sensitivity Use of educational technology and online learning tools Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Eligibility to serve as an AmeriCorps member Background check clearance required Experience working with youth preferred Basic computer literacy (Google Workspace or MS Office)5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
