As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you will serve in a public school providing daily academic support, mentoring, and encouragement to help students reach their goals. You’ll tutor in core subjects, lead small-group activities, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to reinforce classroom learning. City Year’s collaborative, inclusive culture emphasizes social justice, leadership development, and personal growth. In this role, you’ll gain professional development, serve on a diverse team, and make a meaningful impact on students’ academic and social-emotional success. Provide individualized and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects Mentor students to build confidence, motivation, and social-emotional skills Support classroom instruction in partnership with teachers Monitor, document, and report on student progress and engagement Facilitate enrichment or homework help sessions before or after school Communicate regularly with school staff about student needs Participate in City Year training, coaching, and professional development Collaborate with fellow AmeriCorps members on schoolwide initiatives Model positive behavior and promote an inclusive, respectful classroom culture Engage families and community partners when appropriate to support students Academic tutoring in math and reading Lesson reinforcement and classroom support Student mentoring and coaching Behavior management and classroom management support Data entry and progress monitoring Basic educational technology and online learning tools Communication with teachers, students, and families Time management and organization Group facilitation and small-group instruction Cultural competency and working with diverse student populations Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Eligibility to serve as an AmeriCorps member Background check clearance for working with youth Experience working with K–12 students (preferred) Training in youth mentoring or counseling (preferred)5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
