Employer seeks a Manager, Mechanical Design (Manager, CAD Services, Design Standards & GSE) for our Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles) location. Relocation assistance is provided.

 

Position requires managing employees at the Canoga Park, CA site location and may also be required to manage employees at other company sites.

 

This position supports Employer’s growing Mechanical Design Engineering organization and reports to the Senior Design Manager of CAD Services, Design Standards & GSE. This position performs a variety of CAD Services and Design Standards managerial tasks on fast-paced liquid and solids rocket engine development and production programs.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):

70% - Primary responsibilities are the leadership and management of CAD designer, checkers and design standards staff who lead or support all programs and their associated work products.  Individual must be able to provide supervision and strong leadership to accomplish complex CAD designs, associate product definition and integration tasks for products, on time and within schedule while minimizing mission risk.  Primary duties include supporting program IPT’s and design lead engineers to successfully create and manage product definition and design processes to meet programs’ cost, schedule, quality and risk requirements using/improving Enterprise design processes and tools.

 

10% - Provides internal and external Design Review support to assure product designs and product definition meet program requirements, AR design procedures, CAD standards and best practices.

 

10% - Provides employee mentoring and career development opportunities to increase versatile system and component design capability across programs.  Interprets and applies administrative processes and procedures that affect the engineering staff.

 

10% - Develops CAD process improvements, tools and training as needed to streamline Enterprise design costs for programs while also reinforcing design to cost and re-use when possible.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline and 9 years of progressive experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using high end model based PLM (Windchill/Teamcenter) and CAD systems (Creo/NX). Proficient to expert user in one or both NX and or Creo CAD design tools.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and leading design standards within the engineering organization.
  • Experience developing CAD design best practices, and training materials, and provide instruction on the proper use of design tools.
  • Strong leadership skills. Able to correct, coach, drive, and motivate staff members through informal and formal mentoring.
  • Strong communication and listening skills. Communicates clearly with team members and individuals at all levels and disciplines, including senior management. 
  • Strong project management background with proven ability to drive and execute projects.
  • Results oriented individual that will ensure successful solutions are implemented, or existing processes are improved or eliminated possesses a keen sense how to motivate staff members.
  • Individual who is willing to try new things to improve or change design methods and processes.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling discipline and tools.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
