Overview:

The Estimator / Forklift Operator will safely and efficiently operate the forklift equipment ranging in lift capacity from 25,000 pounds down to 5,000 pounds.  This employee will lift, stack, unstack and generally handle chassis ranging in size from 20’ in length to 53’ long and will operate the UTR equipment to maneuver and position chassis within the yard and workshop and in situations with limited space. This role will also include performing live chassis inspections, in and out gate inspections and interchanges using both hard copy documentation and/or hand-held technology.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Daily review of safety rules
  • Safe handling of chassis and other items engaged with various types of handling equipment to include, but not limited to, forklifts (up to 25,000 pound lift capacity) and UTR’s
  • Communicate with management on space requirements, backlog of work, and inventory issues
  • Perform live chassis inspections in and out gate with an EIR or hand-held device
  • Perform chassis inspections and prepare repair estimates to TRAC repair criteria using all or a combination of TRAC policies and procedures, FMCSA requirements and standards, IICL requirements and standards and any and all other applicable standards and criteria
  • Perform container chassis inspections relevant to chassis refurbishment and maintenance and repairs of all chassis types and sizes
  • Communicate with customers and their drivers about equipment availability and locations and to receive and deliver chassis in a timely and polite manner
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  •  High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three years of proven experience in operating lift devices (with a lift capacity up to and including 25,000 pounds) and UTR yard trucks
  • Ability to be certified to operate TRAC forklifts and UTR equipment
  • Ability to read and write legibly
  • Minimum three years knowledge and experience generating chassis estimates to FMCS, IICL, AAR and or DOT requirements and standards
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • Ability to review a written plan and execute according to the TRAC and industry accepted process, procedures and standards
  • Ability to work within a process-oriented team atmosphere
  • Three years working with and understanding AAR, FMCSA, IICL and DOT rules and criteria
  • Must meet minimum FMCSA requirements that are listed in the Special Position Requirements
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks

Other Requirements

  • This position may require periodically supporting other local and National TRAC M&R activities, both locally and nationally
  • Ability to conduct surveys and inspections at third party depots and rail ramps
  • Must possess a current TWIC card or have the ability to obtain one
  • Understand FMCSA container chassis inspection criteria and be able to identify defective components
  • Knowledge of chassis repair methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing chassis repairs and inspections
  • Must be capable of performing FMCSA chassis inspections by reason of experience, training, or both
