Employer is currently hiring an Apprentice Mechanic who has welding and general Mechanic knowledge to work on our fleet of chassis.  This junior level Mechanic will be handing the removal of tires, sorting and grading of tires, cutting of scrap chassis, forklift driving, UTR driving, gate inspections, general clean up and other duties as assigned. The Apprentice Mechanic will be expected to become knowledgeable of, and utilize all safety rules and TRAC policies and procedures.  Military experience is highly valued.  We offer competitive hourly pay, excellent benefits, long-term career opportunities and a strong team-oriented environment.  

  • Review and adhere to all safety rules and guidelines at all times 
  • Safely handle chassis, tires and other items engaged with the appropriate lift device
  • Remove and replace tires on chassis 
  • Use welding equipment to cut scrap chassis
  • Move and repositioning of chassis using appropriate equipment (UTR)
  • Occasionally operate a forklift 
  • Communicate with management on workload requirements
  • Clearly and accurately document backlog of work and inventory issues
  • Follow industry guidelines and TRAC policies and procedures at all times 
  • able to generate and communicate written documentation related to cutting chassis, tire inventories, chassis and axles ‘in bound and out bound interchanges
  • This position will require periodic support of other local TRAC M&R activities and other duties as assigned
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Degree or certification from Technical school or Welding school highly preferred 
  • Must have experience with flame cutting / MIG welding
  • Must have experience working with various mechanical tools and equipment
  • Experience operating a forklift or yard truck is strongly preferred 
  • Must have working knowledge of oxygen / fuel gas cutting gear / pneumatic and electric impact tools / pneumatic and electric grinders
  • This position will require periodic support of other local TRAC M&R activities

The ideal candidate must be able to:

  • Work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • Become certified to operate forklift and UTR type equipment
  • Read and write legibly in English 
  • review a written plan and execute according to the stated standards
  • Work well within a process-oriented team.  Everyone works together until the job is done
  • Work effectively at a fast paced to acheive targets/goals 
  • Meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks
