The Position

The City of Riverside, Public Utilities Department (RPU) is accepting applications for the position of Utilities Field Services Representative Part Time to fill two (2) vacancy in the Field Services Division. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

The Utility Field Services Representative assists in reading electric and water meters and recording consumption. Delivers utility cut-off notifications on residential and business doors of designated utility customers.

Work Performed

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Deliver and place utility cut-off notices on residential and business doors of designated utility customers; deliver City locks, meter reading cards, or other miscellaneous items to customers.
  • Assist in reading or verifying electric meters utilizing telescope for reading over fences, as assigned.
  • Assist in reading or verify water meters utilizing hand trowels, shovels, and buckets to dig out dirt and bail out water in meter boxes, as assigned.
  • Interact with dogs in the course of obtaining meter readings; adhere to safety standards and handle field situations with professionalism.
  • Check meter for possible diversion, tampering, and other damage; report and communicate any unsafe meter conditions to supervisor.
  • Utilize Data Cap Handheld (DCH) computer to input water and electric meter readings, update meter location, and update account information as required.
  • Tactfully respond to citizen inquiries and complaints and deliver 48-hour notices.
  • Maintain assigned City vehicle including removing of trash, debris, and personal items; report mechanical defects and problems; monitor and/or maintain appropriate tire pressure, gasoline, water, and oil levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).

Experience: None

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Six months of experience working independently in the field.
  • Six months of experience in a delivery driver position.
  • Ability to lift up to 32 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds occasionally.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, appropriate California Class "C" Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is done outside and in the field with exposure to faulty devices, chemicals, tools, inclement weather, and potentially hazardous conditions. Employees may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives and will provide professional customer service.

Educational Requirements:

  1. An equivalency statement from an evaluation company certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators Inc. (AICE).
  2. An advanced-level degree from an accredited US college or university.
