As an Academic Tutor & Mentor with City Year, you will serve full-time in a partner public school, providing targeted academic support and positive mentorship to students. Working on a diverse AmeriCorps team within the Education, Training & E-Learning department, you’ll tutor in core subjects, reinforce lessons, and help manage small groups in the classroom. You’ll build trusting relationships, monitor progress, and collaborate with teachers and teammates to address academic and social-emotional needs. City Year offers a collaborative, inclusive culture, leadership development, and professional growth while you make a measurable difference in students’ lives. Provide daily academic tutoring in core subjects to small groups and individual students. Mentor students to build positive relationships, motivation, and social-emotional skills. Support classroom teachers with lesson reinforcement, group work, and behavior management. Track and report student progress using school and City Year data systems. Collaborate with AmeriCorps teammates and school staff to plan interventions and activities. Communicate regularly with supervisors about student needs and program goals. Participate in ongoing training, reflection, and professional development sessions. Assist with school-wide events, family engagement activities, and after-school programming.
