POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Reproduction Coordinator Assistant Part Time Temporary REPORTS TO: Director of Breeding and Canine Development OVERALL SUMMARY : This part time temporary position is responsible for performing semen collections, evaluations, artificial inseminations and cryopreservation. The Technician uses different procedures and techniques to ensure optimal comfort and wellbeing for each dog during medical and husbandry procedures by utilizing positive reinforcement and low stress handling techniques. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Performs semen evaluations of colony stud dogs per protocols to ensure optimum fertility. Utilizes individualized dog handling plans using R and low stress techniques and works with other staff and volunteers in the implementation. Assisting in management/maintenance of GDB’s cryogenetic program. Tasks include collecting semen, freezing it, shipping for co-breedings, and tank maintenance. Undertakes natural breedings and routine artificial inseminations as needed. Performs artificial or transcervical inseminations utilizing fresh, chilled and frozen semen. Works effectively and cooperatively with other departments involved in the mating process. Adheres to our organization's safety policies and procedures and encourages others to do the same. Promptly reports incidents and accidents according to campus procedures. Undertakes other duties as assigned. POSITION ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Experience in the principles and practices of canine reproduction and/or licensed as an Animal Health Technician desirable. Training in the areas of semen evaluation and insemination techniques, cryopreservation, and basic genetic principles and practices desirable. Has the ability to read and understand dog body language, experienced in applying low stress handling techniques and behavior modification plans utilizing positive reinforcement Good communication and teamwork skills. Must safely handle a variety of large breed dogs, weighing up to 90 pounds, with varying strength and manageability. Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds. Employees are required to seek assistance when lifting dogs or objects weighing more than 40 pounds. High school diploma or equivalent. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: Part Time Temporary
