Overview

In this role you will support timely and accurate patient registration and financial interactions in the ED setting. You collaborate with clinical staff to verify insurance, obtain authorizations, and collect patient liabilities, contributing to smooth patient flow and compliant revenue cycle management. You will guide patients and families through policies, payments, and documentation with a service-oriented mindset. This position offers hands-on experience in a high-volume hospital environment and opportunities to work cross-functionally to resolve insurance and registration issues.

Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and families to collect complete demographic, insurance, and financial information
  • Perform bedside registration using carts/computers on wheels and scan required documents
  • Search MPI and assign correct medical record numbers; notify supervisor of changes
  • Verify insurance and obtain pre-certification/authorization as needed; obtain proper treatment authorizations
  • Calculate and collect patient liable amounts and explain policies according to collections procedures
  • Process and track patient payments; issue receipts and maintain payment integrity
  • Secure required signatures for treatment, release of information, insurance benefits, and payments from responsible parties
  • Coordinate appointment scheduling and direct patients to appropriate departments or staff
  • Prepare and align documents for patient medical and financial records; ensure timely chart processing
  • Maintain professional, compassionate patient interactions and support unit transfer coordination during care
  • Review insurance contracts to support correct hospital placement and compliance
  • Attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings; uphold CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • 0-3 years of related experience
  • High school diploma (Bachelor's degree strongly preferred)
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to understand instructions and exercise independent judgment
