The Northern District of Illinois, Chicago Office is accepting applications for Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) openings in its Criminal Division, for a Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) AUSA, in Chicago, Illinois. The applicant selected will represent the U.S. Government as an AUSA focusing on the investigation and prosecution of firearms-related offenses. PSN AUSAs will collaborate with law enforcement partners-especially the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)-to conduct responsive and proactive investigations of firearms offenses, and will be responsible for the full life cycle of these cases, from the initial investigation, through charging, resolution by guilty plea or trial, sentencing, and as appropriate appeal. PSN AUSAs may be considered for transfer to another section in the Criminal Division upon completion of four years of service. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
