As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you’ll serve full-time in a partner public school, providing small-group and one-on-one academic support, mentoring, and homework help to students. You’ll track progress, reinforce classroom instruction, and lead activities that build engagement, social-emotional skills, and a positive school climate. You’ll collaborate closely with teachers and a diverse team of AmeriCorps members, participate in professional development, and grow your leadership skills while making a meaningful impact on students’ success. Provide small-group and one-on-one academic tutoring in core subjects Support classroom instruction under teacher guidance Mentor students to build motivation, confidence, and social-emotional skills Monitor and document student progress and participation Communicate regularly with teachers and team members about student needs Help plan and lead enrichment, after-school, or homework support sessions Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom and school environment Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and professional development Engage families and school staff respectfully and professionally Uphold City Year and AmeriCorps service standards and policies Tutoring and academic support Classroom support techniques Youth mentoring and relationship-building Basic data tracking and record-keeping Time management and organization Written and verbal communication Collaboration and teamwork Basic educational technology and computer skills Cultural competence and inclusivity practices Behavior management and student engagement strategies Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance AmeriCorps eligibility (US citizen, national, or permanent resident) Background check clearance Experience working with youth (preferred) Training in tutoring or education (preferred) Basic computer literacy5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
