Part-time Accounting/Finance Consultant

A great UHY client is seeking a Part-Time Accounting & Finance Consultant to support accounting, financial analysis, and ad hoc project work. This role is ideal for a highly technical, hands-on professional who can step in and provide immediate value across a range of accounting and data-driven initiatives. The position focuses on bridging the gap between senior leadership and junior staff while improving workflows and supporting ongoing financial operations.

The Part-Time Accounting & Finance Consultant role is a flexible, part-time opportunity requiring approximately 5–15 hours per week. The position can be fully remote, though candidates located in the Metro Detroit area are preferred for occasional in-office collaboration. This role may be structured as either a direct hire or contract engagement.

Part-Time Accounting & Finance Consultant Responsibilities

• Support accounting operations, including ad hoc financial analysis and reporting
• Assist with financial statement support, reconciliations, and data validation
• Develop and maintain advanced Excel models to consolidate and analyze data
• Perform data-heavy tasks such as reconciling multiple data sources and building structured outputs
• Take ownership of delegated tasks from senior leadership, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
• Provide guidance and support to junior team members
• Assist with process improvements and workflow optimization
• Support light project work and special initiatives as needed

Part-Time Accounting & Finance Consultant Requirements

• Strong accounting foundation with understanding of debits and credits
• Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Power Query, array functions; macros preferred)
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a flexible, part-time capacity
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience handling ad hoc and unstructured work in a dynamic environment
• Familiarity with Power BI or similar tools is a plus
• Exposure to AI tools (e.g., Claude or similar) is a plus
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate and coach others
