As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you’ll work in partner public schools to provide targeted academic support, mentoring, and encouragement to students. In collaboration with teachers and a diverse AmeriCorps team, you’ll deliver small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, reinforce classroom instruction, and monitor student progress. You’ll also help lead enrichment activities, support a positive school climate, and serve as a role model. City Year offers robust training, ongoing coaching, and professional development in a mission-driven, inclusive environment focused on social justice, leadership, and personal growth. Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects Collaborate with classroom teachers to align tutoring with curriculum and learning goals Monitor, document, and report on student progress and engagement Mentor students to build confidence, social-emotional skills, and positive school habits Support classroom management and a positive, inclusive learning environment Assist with planning and leading enrichment, after-school, or homework programs Communicate regularly with school staff and City Year team members Participate in City Year trainings, coaching sessions, and professional development Promote City Year’s values of service, equity, and social justice within the school community Academic tutoring in core subjects (e.g., math, English, reading) Lesson reinforcement and instructional support Classroom management support Student progress monitoring and data tracking Basic educational technology and online learning tools Written and verbal communication Youth mentoring and relationship-building Organization and time management Culturally responsive practices Team collaboration in school settings Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred Prior tutoring or classroom experience preferred AmeriCorps eligibility requirements (per City Year) Background check clearance Experience with diverse student populations5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
