As an Academic Tutor and Mentor at City Year, you will support students’ academic and social-emotional growth in partnership with teachers and school staff. In this full-time role, you’ll provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, reinforce classroom instruction, and monitor student progress. You’ll serve as a mentor and role model, fostering positive relationships and encouraging strong attendance and engagement. Working within a diverse AmeriCorps team, you’ll contribute to a collaborative, inclusive culture focused on educational equity, leadership development, and continuous learning while gaining valuable professional experience in education. Provide small-group and one-on-one academic tutoring in core subjects to K–12 students Support classroom instruction in partnership with teachers and school staff Build positive, mentoring relationships that encourage student engagement and attendance Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation Use data and teacher feedback to adjust tutoring strategies and supports Help facilitate social-emotional learning activities and positive classroom climate Communicate regularly with City Year team leaders and school partners about student needs Participate in ongoing City Year and school-based trainings and professional development Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive AmeriCorps team culture focused on student success Support school events, family outreach, and whole-school initiatives as needed Tutoring in reading and writing Tutoring in mathematics Classroom support and management Student mentoring and relationship-building Basic data tracking and progress monitoring Use of educational technology and online learning platforms Communication with teachers and school staff Time management and organization Cultural competency and working with diverse communities Facilitation of small-group learning activities Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Prior experience working with youth in educational or mentoring settings (preferred) Completion of City Year AmeriCorps onboarding and training Background check clearance for working in K–12 schools Basic proficiency with online learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom)5c143e31-5e48-4549-b638-05792d185386
