Job Title: Nurse Manager - Behavioral Health

Location: Brooklyn, New York (Onsite)

Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM



Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager - Behavioral Health to lead and oversee daily operations of a psychiatric unit in a hospital setting. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, staff leadership, and operational excellence. The Nurse Manager will collaborate closely with the Director and interdisciplinary teams to drive performance improvement and maintain best practices in behavioral health services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and clinical management of the behavioral health unit
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements
  • Maintain professional and positive interactions with patients, families, and staff
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and quality assurance programs
  • Monitor admissions, discharges, and patient care plans for optimal outcomes
  • Prepare and manage clinical reports and data for regulatory agencies
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • NY State Office of Mental Health (OMH)
  • NY Department of Health (DOH)
  • NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)
  • Joint Commission (JCAHO)
  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight for nursing staff
  • Manage budgeting, staffing, and inventory for the unit
  • Ensure adherence to nursing standards, ethics, and scope of practice
  • Support staff development, training, and continuing education
  • Implement best practices and innovative care models
  • Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives (HCAHPS)
  • Provide 24/7 operational leadership coverage as required


Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Minimum 5 years of psychiatric/behavioral health experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Must have experience managing a psychiatric unit in a hospital setting


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Knowledge of quality improvement (CQI), Root Cause Analysis
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (NYSDOH, JCAHO, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment


Education

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)


Certifications & Licensure

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License - New York State
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Crisis Management Certification (PMCS, TRUST)
