Job Summary
Manages a high-volume portfolio of 100+ litigation matters handled by outside counsel, working largely independently to monitor case activity, evaluate exposure, and support resolution strategies. Reviews case files, provides recommendations on reserves and settlements, evaluates litigation strategy, and collaborates with outside counsel, investigators, and internal stakeholders. Maintains accurate case records, reviews legal invoices and litigation documents, and supports mediation and settlement activities.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of 100+ litigation matters handled by outside counsel.
- Review case files, diary updates, pleadings, motions, mediation statements, and other litigation materials.
- Communicate with outside counsel, internal investigators, adjusters, attorneys, and business stakeholders regarding case status and strategy.
- Evaluate claims, liability, exposure, and case valuation to support reserve and settlement recommendations.
- Review litigation strategy and provide actionable feedback to outside counsel.
- Prepare and present settlement requests and make recommendations regarding claim resolution.
- Review and evaluate legal invoices and submitted bills.
- Maintain accurate case notes, records, and updates within the case management system.
- Monitor case activity and identify issues requiring additional investigation or escalation.
- Assist with investigations and development of case strategy.
- Support mediation preparation and review mediation materials.
- Prepare case tracking, reserve analysis, settlement evaluations, and related reports.
- Collaborate with the outside counsel management team on portfolio management and process improvements.
Job Requirements
- Experience managing a high-volume portfolio of litigation or claims matters involving outside counsel.
- Experience with New York claims evaluation, case valuation, reserve setting, exposure analysis, and settlement recommendations.
- Strong understanding of litigation strategy and ability to review motions and provide feedback to outside counsel.
- Experience with settlement negotiation, resolution management, and settlement authority recommendations.
- Experience using case management systems such as Guidewire, Litify, Legal Files, ClaimCenter, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Excel for communication, tracking, analysis, and reporting.
- Experience with document review and e-billing platforms.
- Ability to conduct or support legal research and review litigation documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, adjusters, investigators, and business stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Education
- Bachelor's degree, law degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant claims or litigation experience.
