Senior Medical Malpractice Attorney

A well-established Virginia law firm is growing its medical malpractice defense practice in Richmond. With a strong existing client base among regional health systems and hospitals, the firm is seeking senior talent to expand the practice — not simply fill a seat.

This is a substantive opportunity for a defense-side med mal attorney ready to work independently on complex cases. The focus is on Richmond-area clients, including large health systems and institutional providers across eastern and central Virginia. Attorneys with portable business and business development interests will stand out.

Responsibilities

• Manage and litigate complex medical malpractice defense matters independently
• Serve as primary counsel for health system and institutional healthcare clients
• Handle all aspects of case strategy, discovery, motions, and trial
• Contribute to business development and client relationship growth
• Meet billable hour expectations of 1,800–1,900 hours annually

Qualifications

• Substantive medical malpractice defense experience
• Senior associate or partner-level credentials with ability to work independently
• Virginia Bar admission preferred; candidates eligible to waive in will be considered
• Experience with hospitals, health systems, or large institutional healthcare clients is a strong plus
• Portable book of business is a plus but not required.
