Position Title: Elementary Health and Physical Education Teacher

Contract Term: 10 Month Contract

Salary: Teacher Salary Scale Commensurate with Experience (Based on the FY 2026–2027 Salary Scale)

Location: Brunswick Elementary School

Start Date: August 1, 2026

Reports to: Building Administration

Job Summary

The Elementary Health and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a learning environment that promotes physical fitness, healthy body function, and lifelong wellness. The teacher motivates students to develop physical skills, positive social and emotional adjustment, and an appreciation for physical activity. Instruction supports the development of strength, coordination, agility, and teamwork through individual, dual, and team activities aligned with each student's developmental level and ability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches health and physical education curriculum using instructional resources designated by Brunswick County Public Schools.

  • Provides instruction in physical fitness, health concepts, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, and team sports.

  • Collaborates with other physical education teachers and school staff to plan and implement a balanced and developmentally appropriate program.

  • Develops and delivers lesson plans aligned with the division's instructional philosophy, course objectives, and Virginia Standards of Learning.

  • Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of individual students and diverse learner populations.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.

  • Provides safety instruction and conducts routine safety checks of equipment and activity areas.

  • Assesses and evaluates student progress and maintains accurate records including attendance, assessments, and required documentation.

  • Communicates effectively with parents, guardians, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress.

  • Supervises students during instructional and assigned non instructional duties.

  • Administers assessments in accordance with division and state guidelines.

  • Models nondiscriminatory practices and maintains professional conduct at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Eligible for or in possession of a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Health and Physical Education.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
