JOB DESCRIPTION: The alternative teacher will facilitate the Summers County Schools Alternative Education Program held on the campus of SCCHS. The Alternative Education Program will run from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm, Monday-Thursday. There are two positions, with each position working two evenings a week.
QUALIFICATIONS: Holds appropriate certification in assigned field
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal and Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Students
SALARY: $30.00 per hour, not to exceed 6 hours per week, with one additional hour for planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Alternative Education Teacher:
1. Will instruct, following regular teacher's lesson plans, all students placed in the alternative education program.
2. Implement the program of study.
3. Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
4. Utilize instructional management systems that increase student learning and utilize time on task.
5. Monitor student progress toward instructional goals and objectives or IEPs
6. Maintain and upgrade his/her professional skills.
7. Promote and maintain positive public relations with students, parents, colleagues and appropriate community organizations.
8. Maintain professional work habits.
9. Will perform other services and duties that may be required by the principal, superintendent, and/or the board of education.
Selection Criteria: Alternative Education Program
A. West Virginia professional teaching certificate, grades 6-8
B. ability to effect positive behavior in disruptive students
C. effective leadership and/or mentoring skills in working with youth
D. successful experience in providing education to troubled or disruptive youth
E. specialized training or experience in non-traditional programs
