Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a vibrant educational community by serving as a 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter for a 4th-grade student beginning January 5 through the end of the school year. Your skills will empower students to fully engage in their academic environment, helping bridge communication gaps in the classroom and beyond.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting skills
- Experience working in K-12 educational settings, preferably with elementary students
- Flexibility to adapt interpreting styles based on classroom needs and student preferences
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and educational teams
- Strong understanding of both educational terminology and Deaf culture
- Relevant certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) is highly desirable
- Professional, patient, and compassionate demeanor
- Previous experience as a Teacher of American Sign Language is a plus
- Serve as a dedicated 1:1 interpreter for a 4th-grade student, facilitating full access to instructional activities and classroom participation
- Accurately interpret lessons, discussions, and peer interactions
- Partner closely with the classroom teacher to support the student's learning goals
- Adjust interpreting methods to best suit the student's comprehension and communication needs
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with educational and ethical guidelines
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and empowering classroom environment
- Assist in promoting self-advocacy and independence for the student
