We are seeking a Part-Time Business and Accounting Tutor to support students in mastering key concepts in business administration, finance, and accounting. The tutor will provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, assisting students with coursework, assignments, and exam preparation. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in business, accounting, and financial principles who are passionate about helping students succeed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent and associate's degree required. Proof of completed coursework, with a final grade of B or higher in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.

Experience

  • Prior tutoring, teaching, or relevant professional experience in business or accounting is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and educational technology platforms. Additionally, proficiency in financial software, spreadsheets (Excel), and accounting tools (i.e. QuickBooks) is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset, with the ability to handle inquiries in a professional and supportive manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in a related field. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept. of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.

Essential Duties

  1. Provide Academic Support:

  2. Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions for Business and Accounting students.

  3. Prepare and facilitate weekly small group study sessions, creating targeted opportunities for students to hone their confidence with complex concepts.
  4. Help students develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  5. Facilitate Student Learning

  6. Adapt tutoring strategies to meet diverse learning styles and academic needs.

  7. Use various teaching methods, including diagrams, models, and digital resources, to enhance comprehension.
  8. Encourage students to develop effective study habits and independent learning skills.

  9. Assist with Course Material

  10. Guide students through assignments and exam preparation.

  11. Clarify difficult concepts related to financial reporting, taxation, budgeting, auditing, and economic principles.
  12. Support students in applying knowledge to practical and real-world scenarios.

  13. Track Student Progress

  14. Monitor and document student improvement and areas of difficulty by filing summary reports following each session.

  15. Provide feedback to students on their academic performance.
  16. Communicate with faculty or academic support staff regarding student progress as needed.

  17. Maintain a Supportive Learning Environment

  18. Foster a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for students.

  19. Uphold academic integrity and encourage ethical learning practices.
  20. Respect student confidentiality and adhere to institutional policies.

  21. Stay Updated on Subject Matter

  22. Working with your supervisor, set professional development goals to expand and develop your knowledge of your subject area(s).

  23. Additional Responsibilities

  24. Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Success Center Director to ensure efficient and effective operation of the Center.
